Ease the weight on your shoulders by taking a personal day to practice self-care.
Everyone needs a break every now and then to kick their feet up and unwind. And when that day finally comes, you might glance at your bare feet and wonder… when was the last time I got a pedicure? When you feel like having a relaxing day without stepping foot outdoors, grab your fluffiest robe and follow our step-by-step guide to the best day in ever.
Clear your calendar
We need days off, even during the busiest periods of the year — and that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t take them. When your stress levels are through the roof, that’s exactly when you should spend a day relaxing at home. Besides telling work you’ll be away, you’ll want to de-clutter your schedule of any other non-essential appointments you may have in order to have the full day for yourself. That means no conference calls, no play dates and no commitments.
Prep your entertainment options
If you subscribe to a video streaming service, pick your favorite films and line them up so they’re easily accessible when you’re ready to watch them. Better yet, if you have favorite DVDs or old VHS tapes, line them up so you can relax and watch some old classics. If you’re not into movies, you can always curl up with that book you’ve been meaning to read while sipping on a hot cup of tea. And if your nine-to-five consists of sitting in front of a screen, then do the opposite and put on some loud music and dance; exercise boosts endorphins which will make you feel like great.
Eat your favorite foods
If you skip one gym session and treat yourself to your favorite food and snacks, we’ve already forgiven you and you can forgive yourself as well! If you’re sitting back with a good book or entertaining film, go ahead and eat that buttery popcorn or pig out on those cheesy puffs. For lunch, order your most-loved take-out and have it delivered (because going out means getting out of your robe and that just isn’t in the plan) and if you’re really adventurous, have dessert for dinner! It’s your day off — do what you want.
Do what you love without compromise
While playing old movies or reading a good book is rewarding, it may not be how you want to spend your entire day. If you love baking, you could spend a couple of hours whipping up your favorite dessert or if you enjoy painting, you can set up your easel and start on a new art piece. Wherever your passions lay, take the day to explore them and find peace within yourself doing what you love to do.
